The Article vs. · News aggregator app
The Article vs. Apple News
A beautifully-designed kiosk. We're a smaller, quieter one.

Apple News is a clean app on top of a recommendation engine on top of a subscription bundle. It's an honest aggregator: it surfaces other people's reporting, beautifully. The Article is also an aggregator — much smaller, AI-driven, with a different shape. We respect what Apple News did for the look and feel of news on phones.
Why Apple News matters
- Distribution. If you have an iPhone, the app is already there.
- Apple News+ has rescued the print magazine experience for a generation that grew up without it.
- They surface real journalism — they don't generate fake versions of it.
How we rely on Apple News
- Apple News reminded the industry that the design of an aggregator matters as much as the algorithm.
- Their Top Stories module is a useful signal for what is genuinely cutting through.
- We share their fundamental honesty about being an aggregator — neither of us pretends to have reporters.
“Apple News is a beautifully-designed kiosk. We're a much smaller, quieter one with a different rhythm.”
Where we humbly fit
- A small AI aggregator with one weekly issue, not an endless feed.
- No algorithmic ranking — your topic list is the only signal.
- Editorial voice, not just curation.
The bottom line
Apple News is excellent for skimming the day. The Article is a small, calm, weekly companion piece for whatever you actually want to follow.
