Terms of Service

Last updated: 2 May 2026 · The Article B.V., Amsterdam

1. The service

The Article is a subscription-based service that delivers a personalised weekly news briefing via email. The briefing is researched and written by an AI system (Anthropic Claude) based on the topics you choose at sign-up. It is published every Sunday morning and delivered to your inbox.

By creating an account or subscribing, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). We are The Article B.V., based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

2. Subscriptions

The Article is currently in a free beta. When paid plans launch, the following terms apply to all subscriptions:

  • Billing — subscriptions are billed monthly or annually, in advance, via Stripe. Prices are displayed at checkout and inclusive of applicable taxes.
  • Auto-renewal — subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You can cancel at any time before the renewal date.
  • Founding rate — beta subscribers who join the waitlist before paid plans launch will be offered a discounted founding rate. This rate is locked for the lifetime of that subscription.
  • Free trial — where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled beforehand.

3. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email. After cancellation:

  • Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
  • No further charges are made.
  • We do not offer prorated refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by law (e.g. the EU 14-day cooling-off period for digital services).

To request a refund under the EU cooling-off right, contact us within 14 days of your first payment at hello@thearticle.ai.

4. Content and accuracy

The Article uses AI to research and write briefing content. While we aim for accuracy and relevance, the following apply:

  • Briefing content is for general informational purposes only. It does not constitute financial, legal, medical, or investment advice.
  • AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. We do not guarantee the completeness or timeliness of any information in a briefing.
  • You should verify any information before acting on it, particularly in professional or high-stakes contexts.

5. Intellectual property

All briefing content, design, and software are owned by The Article B.V. or its licensors. You may read, save, and share individual briefings for personal, non-commercial use. You may not:

  • Reproduce or redistribute briefings commercially without written permission.
  • Scrape, automate access to, or systematically extract content from the service.
  • Represent AI-generated briefing content as your own original work.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service or its underlying infrastructure.
  • Interfere with the service’s availability or performance.
  • Create multiple accounts to circumvent subscription limits.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Article B.V. is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under Dutch or EU consumer law.

8. Changes to the service

We may modify or discontinue any part of the service with reasonable notice. If we make a material change that negatively affects your subscription, you will be notified by email at least 30 days in advance and offered the option to cancel without penalty.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by Dutch law. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, except where mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
